Portsmouth & Southsea have five players among the 12 leading wicket-takers in their Southern Premier League group

Portsmouth & Southsea have five of the top 12 wicket-takers in the 2020 Southern Premier League Division 2/Division 3 East section.

P & S host West division winners Bashley 2nds in the grand final at St James’ this Saturday after winning all five of their completed group matches.

The success was based around a superb bowling attack which has been led by Chris Turrell.

In his last season at P & S before leaving due to work commitments, Turrell has taken 11 wickets at 10.27.

The only player in the division to take more is Waterlooville’s Max Goddard, who bagged 14 at 10.07.

P & S’ Keiron Dunstan took 10 wickets at 13.9 with opening bowler Jono Willey bagging nine at 11.78. Both those two joined Turrell in the division’s six leading wicket-takers.

They were joined in the top dozen by captain Ben Saunders (eight wickets at 17.13) and Jake Peach (eight at 17.25).

Purbook’s leading wicket-taker was skipper Josh McCoy, who took 10 at 16.4, followed by Jordan Price (eight at 20.25).

Henry Glanfield was Hambledon’s top wicket-taker with nine at 19.78 while Gosport Borough’s was Jack Richards with seven at 22.14.

Nick Partridge of South Wilts 2nds, with 17 victims, was the leading wicket-taker in the West section - two more than Nick Doubell of Langley Manor.

Portsmouth & Southsea batsman Matt Benfield was the leading runscorer in the East division with 313 at 62.6.

That was only one run behind OTs & Romsey’s Bothwell Chapungu, who was the top scorer in the West Division 2/Division 3 group.

Glanfield, as well as being Hambledon’s leading wicket-taker, was also his side’s top run-getter with 248 at 62.0 - the second best in the section.

Team-mates George Marshall (226 runs at 37.67) and Chris Pratt (179 at 29.83) were third and fourth highest.

Waterlooville’s Alex Shephard was fifth in the log with 159 runs at 31.8, while Purbook’s Martin Lee was sixth with 149 at 29.8.

Archie Reynolds (Waterlooville, 148 runs) and Jack Davies (P & S, 147 runs) completed the top eight.

Gosport’s top run-getter was Mark Toogood, who compiled his 110-run haul in just two innings.

He struck 43 on his debut against Purbrook and followed that up with 67 against Hartley Wintney.
