Portsmouth Valkyries bidding to book spot in National Intermediate Cup semi-final at the expense of Cullompton
Portsmouth Valkyries make the long journey to Cullompton on Sunday for a National Intermediate Cup quarter-final tie.
The Devon side are one place above Valkyries in the league.
‘We have played them twice and it is all square with one win apiece,’ said senior coach Mark Witcher.
‘They possess a quick backline and we have worked at trying to nullify them in training.
‘In previous games, they struggled to cope with our power up front.
‘We know that we will need to be at the top of our game if we are to progress.
‘But having a good cup run has been important for us to get more games for the players.
‘It is a competition that we take very seriously.
‘Our players have definitely upped their intensity ahead of this game and given us some selection headaches.’
Abi Harding, Rosie Staples and Bronwyn Jacobs are all away on holiday.
Georgie Outhwaite could return in the centre with Jordan Wilshire and captain Alice Kightly re-appearing in the forwards.
Valkyries 2nds are hosting Camberley in a development game at Rugby Camp (2pm).
