Post Office deliver the goods to keep up push for Portsmouth League Division 2 title

Post Office are looking favourites for the Portsmouth League Division 2 title after their close 7-5 win against Waterlooville C.

For Post Office, Barry Turner got them off to a good start winning his match, but Rob Derry senior soon cancelled that lead out.

The ever-reliable names of Steve Peckham and Jamie Farrow, who made a 44 break, both won their matches.

It was a little too late when Barry Woolley took his match for Waterlooville, by then it was just too late.

Waterlooville's Gary Wilton shared his match and made a break of 31.

Bellair X are breathing down on the runners-up spot after a 7-5 victory over Copnor E.

It was a good start for Bellair when both Paul Ashmore and Andy Howell won their matches.

But Copnor's Stacey Wearn and Adam Osbourne levelled things up as the match went down to the last two games.

Phil Ledington, for Copnor, played Rich Howell and that meant it went down to the last meeting which old stager Kenny Morgan took for Bellair to see them over the winning line.

Craneswater R remain in second following their 8-4 victory against North End Bowls.

For NEBC, Adrian Pledge won his match with a 49 break but, unfortunately, that was it as Tom Wells, James Sorrell and Martin Richardson all won their games for Craneswater.

Chris Davies and captain Grant Vernon both picked up a frame apiece to take their team to victory.

Waterlooville Xcels moved away from the relegation zone courtesy of a 7-5 win against club-mates Waterlooville D.

Jason Russell got the Xcels off to a flying start and this was backed up the ever-improving young Sam Laxton, who won both of his single frames.

For the D team, the highlight was Craig Skeggs who won both of his frames.

Craneswater Q are also chasing down the runners up spot after coming out on top 8-4 over Pompey

Royals.

Adam Gillen and Tony Lee were the differences as they both won their matches.

Copnor D climbed the Division 1 table with an emphatic 10-2 victory against Craneswater Z.

The only plus point for Craneswater were the two frames won by Adrian Binding.

Other than that, Copnor had Dave Glover and Steve Green getting them off to a great start which was backed up by Bob Chino and Lee Rendle, who continued the good work.

Wayne Rendle then finished things off, making a 53 break along the way.

Craneswater A remain hot on the heels of Waterlooville A thanks to a 10-2 triumph over Cowplain Z.

Steve Hughes got Cowplain off to a fine start, but that was as good as it got with Craneswater's Rob Kirby, Pedro Ferguson, Mick Kirby, Mike Talmondt and captain Andy Boulton winning their matches.

Waterlooville remain top even though they had to contend with a 6-6 draw against Bellair A.

Greg Jones won his two frames, yet this was cancelled out by James Green who fired for Bellair.

Jamie Wilson restored the lead for Waterlooville by but Rob Henley brought it back level.

The remaining games were shared as it ended in a draw.

Copnor A & E lost out in a close contest with Emsworth, going down 7-5.

Tommy O’Neil took his two single frames to give Emsworth a good start.

Bobby Terry claimed a double for Emsworth with breaks of 30, 40 and 34, but his opponent Steve

Toms also made a break of 31.

For Copnor Lee Eden, whilst making a 31 break, won his frames although Copnor still came up short.

Cowplain Gas are chasing down top spot in Division 3 following their 10-2 win over Cowplain Misfits.

For the Gas men Neil Kirby, Ray Pittman, Gary Swatton, Paul Lees and Gary Churchill all had their potting boots on to take their games.

The highlight for the Misfits was captain Ray Axton who won his two frames but that proved to be just a consolation.

Emsworth B remain top of the tree as they beat Cowplain B 8-4.

Things could not have started better for Cowplain as Pete Gorvin won his match.

Emsworth battled back, with John Morrison, Matt Beardsworth and Jim Baldwin all taking their games to give them the edge.

The last two matches were shared, ensuring Emsworth just got passed the winning line.

Waterlooville B and Alex Bowls fought out a close encounter but 'Ville just edged it 7-5.

Alex's Alan Freemantle won his frames for his side and this was cancelled out by Kelvin Connor.

The game was heading for a draw when Waterlooville’s Matt Johnson won his match and that took his side over the winning line.

In the other game in the division, Waterlooville Butler Boys and Craneswater Dandy fought out a 6-6 draw.

The Boys captain Shaun Croxford won his two frames but this was quickly cancelled out by Craneswater as Paul Garside won his match.

The rest of the games were level and there was nothing to split the sides in the final scoreline.
