‘Remarkable’ start to Lewis Scott’s professional golf career continues

Scott held off the stiff challenge of playing partner Ben Wall, Jon Barnes and Adam Hickling to win the Be Wiser Stroke Play Championship at Skylark Golf and Country Club in Whiteley.

Based at Paultons Golf Centre, the former Crofton School pupil finished 12 under par (62-64), two ahead of Barnes with Wall and Hickling tied third two shots further back.

The 24-year-old’s stunning success came after he marked his pro debut by winning the Match Play Championship.

Tuddenham said: ‘It is a remarkable start to Lewis’s professional career and the scoring was just incredible, not only by him but a couple of others too.

‘The PGA in Hampshire prides itself in providing playing opportunities for young professionals making their way in the game.

‘Steve Richardson, winner of the Brokenhurst Manor GC Pro Am last Friday, proves the talent Hampshire has produced over the years.

‘Richard Bland still competes at the highest level of the game after starting in our events.

‘Could Lewis Scott be the next big name to come out of our county association? We will have to wait and see.’

Scott - formerly of the Lee-on-the-Solent Golf Club - said modestly: ‘I played quite nicely. I did not have any bogeys, so that helped.

‘It could have been a better score and I had three putts from 15 feet on one of the par fives, which was disappointing.

‘All I have been doing is tee up, play good golf and see where it takes me. Up to now it has worked well for me.’

Tuddenham added: ‘Skylark Golf and Country Club is a new venue for a major tournament , and stepped in to host the event at short notice.

‘It proved a real success with all the players praising the course, the hospitality shown and the measures put in place to allow the day to go ahead.’
