The Aussie was comfortably beaten 4-0 by Polish 15th seed Krzysztof Ratajski in the first match back after the Christmas break at London's Alexandra Palace.

Whitlock, who lives in Waterlooville, was made to pay for some poor finishing as he was dumped out in the third round without picking up a set.

The Polish Eagle produced an assured display to dispatch the Wizard of Oz who came into tournament on the back of some good results.

On a day to forget, Whitlock was made to pay for his below-par double-hitting display.

The 51-year-old Aussie missed 23 darts at a double as he exited the World Championships.

Ratajski raced into a 2-0 set lead but Whitlock missed a dart to come back to within a set of his opponent.

The Pole then took his chance to go three sets to the good and the Aussie was eventually defeated 4-0.
