Thatchers have lift off in battle to beat Portsmouth League Division 3 relegation

Doug Mitchell had won the opener for Thatchers but they soon trailed 2-1.

Dave Robinson hit a 103 checkout to pull his side back level with Fawcett.

Thatchers wasted no further time in bagging the points as Ray Lance, Alan Mitchell senior, Chris Lawrence and Peter Lamb rattled off four sets on the trot.

Fawcett were three players short so needed redraws for the closing ties and they battled back to make the final scoreline more respectable.

Mermaid moved level on points with Lord Chichester A at the top of Division 5 with a 5-4 win over the leaders.

Terry Griffiths and Mark Morgan gave Mermaid an early advantage but both times they were cancelled out by Steve Ketchen and Dave Gisby respectively.

Pat Reed put Chichester ahead for the first time, only for Rob Knowles and Martin Simmons to move Mermaid back in front.

Chichester’s Pete Curtis won the penultimate tie to force a decider which Mark Mihell won for Mermaid.

Lawrence Arms moved four points clear at the top of Division 5 as they triumphed 7-2 over second-placed Barley Mow.

The leaders immediately seized control with Tom Robson, Billy Traviss, Rob Michie, Rob McDuff, Matthew Slade and Jon Stares giving them an insurmountable lead.

Mow’s Pete Roberts and Warren Bone pulled legs back before Joe Peters added a seventh for Lawrence.

The Jolly Taxpayer A enjoyed a 6-3 victory over the Artillery Arms in Division 1.

Danny Harmer, Ben Rowley, Tom Stillwell and Neil Munro put the Taxpayer 4-1 in front with only Charlie Deluchi providing a response.

The Taxpayer’s Simon Nicholson hit a maximum in the next set but that was not enough to stop Steve Woodage pulling a set back for Artillery.

Steve Greenwood and Craig McCutcheon took the points for the Taxpayer before Jon Cooper was redrawn for Artillery and won the final set.

Phoenix North End C led throughout their Division 2 clash with Phoenix Southsea, eventually emerging as 7-2 winners.

Ian Vincent got North End off to a winning start with a 17-dart leg before Charlie Mitchell, Josh Holmes and Terry Byrth put them 4-0 up.

John Lloyd got Southsea off the mark but Andy Kelleher won the next set to wrap things up for North End.

Neil Loughton took a consolation leg but as Southsea were two players short, they needed redraws for the remaining sets yet it was to no avail as they lost both.

Justin Bradshaw (Admiral Drake B) finished legs in 15 and 18 darts while Lee Smith (Phoenix North End B) threw a 15-dart leg with a maximum and 156 finish.

Allen Miller (Froddington Arms) and Terry Archer (Phoenix North End B) recorded 16-darters and Liam Emery (George & Dragon), Chris Harradine (Rose in June B) and Gary Smith (Jolly Taxpayer C) all had 17-dart efforts.

There were 18-dart legs from Brad Mulholland (Phoenix North End B), Justin Hughes (Lord Chichester B), Grant McKnight (George & Dragon) and Danny Smith (Admiral Drake B), with McKnight hitting a 117 checkout.

Michael Chandler (Lady Hamilton) hit a 124 finish, Lee Todd (Fountain A) notched a 108 game-shot and James Dugan (Rose in June A) checked out on 106.

Steve Clarke (British Queen) and Adam Lipscombe (Admiral Drake B) fired in two maximums each while Vince Aston (Phoenix North End B), Sam Palmer (Shearer Arms), David Place junior (Stag B), Richard Oliver (Fountain B) and Barry Stevens (Admiral Drake B) also hit 180s.

Portsmouth Individual League

Simon Whitlock made it two wins on the trot as he triumphed in week six of the series.

Whitlock, who registered 10 maximums and a 146 finish, beat Rob Modra 4-2 in the final, having whitewashed John Large 4-0 in the semi-finals.

Ryan Groves won the plate competition with Dan Eade finishing as runner-up.

Andy Jenkins had the fastest leg of the night with an 11-darter.

Bishop's Waltham & District League

Steve Perren fired in two maximums as he booked his place in the last four of the Ron Tallman Cup.

Andy Underwood also progressed, notching a 180 and 115 finish in the process.

Rob Paice and Jon Grant complete the semi-final line-up.
