The home side's on-track determination was met with little luck as mechanical problems, starting infringements and falls contributed to a frustrating meeting.

Alfie Bowtell (8+1) was in the thick of the action. He clocked the fastest time by a Warrior this year in heat one before losing power in heat 10 and suffering a heavy fall in heat 15.

Shaun Tedham hit the deck twice, while Ben Morley (13) and Danno Verge (9) were the top scorers.

Warriors' co-promoter Barry Bishop was pleased with the quality of entertainment served up on the shale '“ if not the result.

He said: '˜It was a really good night of speedway and family fun.

'˜Some falls, retirements and tape problems didn't help us but the boys gave it everything for an enthusiastic crowd.

'˜Well done to the Eagles who were just a bit better than us on the night.  We must now prepare for our trip to Buxton on Sunday.'
