Teenage talent Jimmy Yeung had to pull out all the stops to defend his unbeaten record in Portsmouth League division two.

The 13-year-old Portsmouth Purple ace held on by the skin of his teeth, though, to defeat Chris Bone.

Yeung won 11-9 in the deciding set, completing a 10-0 whitewash against Cowplain Alexandra.

Also on target with hat-tricks for the runaway leaders were Gordon Giles and James Mason.

Yeung’s promotion hopes were given a further boost when he helped Purple to a 10-0 triumph over Knowle Tenacity.

John Cooper once again took the young gun to five sets but Yeung, who has the potential to make his mark at a national level, held his nerve.

Giles and Martin Matuzevicius completed the rout for Purple.

Promotion hopefuls Sporting St Clares also enjoyed two wins.

They thrashed Water Blue 9-1 – courtesy of hat-tricks by Tim Hampton and Graham Wiggins and a Colin Rand double. They then beat Cowplain Cobras with Hampton taking another treble. Trevor Emery replied with a pair.

Knowle Tenacity beat Phoenix Saturn 6-4 as Andy Bugden won three and John Cooper a brace. Ray Barrowclough won twice for Phoenix.

Avenue Puffins beat Cowplain Cobras 6-4 with a maximum by Ricky Hensman, who was well supported by Brian Greenwood’s double. Emery again won a double for Cobras.

In division one, Portsmouth Orange kept up their 100-per-cent record with a 10-0 drubbing of Knowle Rovers.

Their formation of Adam Proszko, Rob Dunmall and Pete Boniface did the damage.

Generation Aces also had a 10-0 victory at the expense of Phoenix Perseus – with the line-up of Charlie Childs, Billy Ho and Mike Rhodes.

Third-placed Navy beat Generation Kings despite Ross Saxby’s hat-trick.

Alex Rorke and Kevin Smith won two each for the winners.

Knowle Swallows beat Generation Jacks. Roger Winkworth won three rubbers and George Cole added two.

Division three leaders Cowplain Neptune defeated Portsmouth Crimson 9-1 with three apiece for Steve Long and Dave Wiles.

Mike Lee responded with a single and Heather George narrowly lost 12-10 in the final set to Mary Barker.

Ken Chipperfield won a superb hat-trick for Eastoke Cougars, who went down 6-4 to rivals Charter Green.

George Lush, Pete Grubb and Pete Denford all won twice for Green.

Water Black crushed Cowplain Emerald 9-1 with trebles by Chris Whatley and Pete McWilliam and two by Pete Higgins.

PW Red beat Phoenix Jupiter with a Colin Miller hat-trick.

St Clares Grasshoppers beat Phoenix Satellites by a 6-4 margin.

Alan Wiggins and Dave Morgan won a pair each but couldn’t stop Richard Stone who was undefeated for Satellites.
