PJC enjoy graduation day at Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun

It was a nice sunny morning for Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun on Saturday with 286 people completing the 5k.

The new runners from the couch to 5k (C25K) course with Portsmouth Joggers completed their graduation.

The club also provided the volunteers for the event.

Portsmouth Joggers (PJC) chairman Ian Jones was run director and enjoyed helping out for the parkrun as well as cheering on the new 5k graduates.

He said: ‘PJC are very keen supporters of parkrun and the club were really excited to provide the volunteers on Saturday.

‘It is a very good way of seeing parkrun from a different perspective and giving back to the running community.

‘We are also keen advocates of the couch to 5k initiative and hold numerous courses during the year.

‘Saturday saw our latest group graduating at their very first parkrun.

‘The C25K course is a great way for people to get fit in a safe and sociable environment.’

James Baker finished first with a time of 16min 08sec.

The winner of the Gosport Half Marathon was going for a course record.

But he will have to return another day after missing the mark of 15.43 set by Lachlan Wellington this month.

City of Portsmouth youngster Daisy Wilkinson was the first female finisher on Saturday with a good time of 20.41.

Second was Jo Payze in 22.29 and third was Laura Vincent (22.49).

Junior runner Alfie Penney completed his 50th parkrun.

Nicky Conway, Yvonne Morris and Angela Langley all got new personal best times as they were cheered on by their club-mates from Portsmouth Joggers.

Portsmouth Lakeside parkrun takes place every Saturday (9am).
