Players to table bids for Craneswater Cup glory
The Craneswater Cup is on the table as 32 players prepare to do battle in Southsea on Sunday.
Defending champion Mike Talmondt will be looking to recapture the trophy.
He's always a consistent performer and will be tough to beat.
Other leading contenders include Rob Kirby, Andy Boulton and Peter Oughton.
It's going to be a busy day of action at the Highland Road venue.
Organiser John Peers is looking forward to the occasion.
He said: '˜Everything is well set for Sunday.
'˜We have got 32 players and this will be a very high standard.
'˜It is the club cup so you have to be a member and there are some top players who will be going for the trophy.
'˜Our teams are going quite well in the Portsmouth & District League and we have players who don't compete in the those matches as well.
'˜Quite a few of the players are in good form.'
Oughton is heading back down from Derby for the competition.
He's possibly going to be one of the main rivals for the prize.
Peers added: '˜It's a good mixture of players taking part.
'˜It will be a good day.
'˜Mike Talmondt is the defending champion and he's always difficult to beat.
'˜Peter Oughton is a good player coming down from Derby.
'˜He's still a member of the club and played for Craneswater a few years ago. He is a very good standard.
'˜Andy Boulton is good, he is in the draw, and Rob Kirby as well.
'˜They will be some of the leading contenders.'
The competition starts at 10am.
