Portsmouth MP urges Premier League clubs to upgrade disabled facilities

Portsmouth North MP Penny Mordaunt has urged Premier League clubs to upgrade their toilet facilities to make sure they can be used by disabled fans on match days.

The Minister of State for Work and Pensions said only four of the league’s clubs had suitable toilet access, stopping some fans from seeing their team play.

Speaking at the official BT Sport and Premier League launch at West Ham’s London Stadium yesterday, she said: ‘It is long overdue, and would also send a powerful message to other organisations and venues that not catering for this basic need is no longer acceptable.

‘I have always believed that the fans are the club. Owners, managers, players come and go; it is the fans that remain constant.

‘Their loyalty and support is your greatest asset and they should be treasured.

‘And that means providing them somewhere where they can go to the loo at half time in safety and comfort.’

Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal and West Ham have all registered an accessible loo as part of the Changing Places scheme, while Manchester City, Southampton and Leicester City will soon follow suit.
