Sam Potts picked up a bronze medal at the Senior British Championships in Sheffield.

The Gosport judo ace ensured he will keep his spot in the Great Britain squad for 2016.

It continued his good record in the competition with a bronze to his name in 2013 and a silver in 2014.

The 10 players in the -90kg category were split into two pools of five.

The top two in each progressed into a final pool of four, carrying their wins through with them.

Potts did well in the first round of the competition.

Unfortunately, his gold medal hopes were ended with a defeat at the next stage, as Gary Hall went on to seal top prize.

But Potts bounced back to win his final fight for the bronze medal.

Coach Sarah Hopkins said: ‘Sam came through his pool second after some good fights, then he lost to his training partner from Bath.

‘He then won his final fight with maximum score and a great throw.’
