Prospects look good as Teuten leads Hampshire Cross-Country League charge

The City of Portsmouth athlete took the senior men’s title with a time of 27min 32sec.

It was an impressive line-up, with athletes from strong clubs Aldershot, Farnham & District, Winchester, Southampton and Bournemouth among those giving chase.

But Teuten was far too quick for his rivals and he won by a dominant margin of 33 seconds.

It was another good display to add to his silver medal in the Hampshire Cross Country Championships a week earlier and an excellent boost ahead of tomorrow’s international match for England.

Teuten said: ‘The race went well.

‘I broke the rest of the field after a mile and felt I could’ve pushed harder if required.

‘Conditions were better, less muddy on the whole, so I could stride out around the football pitches.’

Teuten will be in action for England in Cardiff in the latest round of the UK Cross Challenge.

City youngsters Lachlan Wellington and Saffron Moore also recorded wins in the league match at Reading.

Wellington won the under-15 race with a time of 12.44.

He was 26 seconds clear of nearest rival Max Heyden, who runs for Aldershot.

City’s Jacob O’Hara finished fifth in a time of 13.40.

Callum Crook was 17th in 14.19 and Josh Goldfinch crossed the line 24th in 14.39.

Wellington is leading the individual aggregate.

He has competed in three of the four races and recorded two wins and one second place.

Moore won the under-13 girls’ race with a time of 11.16.

The recently-crowned Hampshire county champion beat Charlie Parsons, of Aldershot, by one second.

City’s Nicole Ainsworth finished third in 11.22 and Charlotte Bullard took seventh place in 11.54.

Eloise O’Neill crossed the line 14th in 12.13.

Fareham athlete Maisie Grice, who runs for Aldershot, finished eighth in the senior women’s race with a time of 20.58.

The Cams Hill School pupil was third in the under-20 age category.

In the under-15 girls’ race, Havant’s Ellie Farrow continued her good form from the county championships as she finished fifth (12.49).

City’s Eleanor Purdue took 16th in 13.17, Bo Sansom was 17th in 13.18, and Anya Pigden 20th in 13.27.
