Rocks Review: Team will be all-Whyte on the night

The Rocks have agreed terms with Havant and Waterlooville to allow Harvey Whyte to return permanently to Nyewood Lane.

The young winger, who has signed an 18-month contract with Bognor, said: “I am really pleased to be back playing with the Rocks again and hope to feature in the game this evening at Cray Wanderers.

“I really enjoyed my loan spells at the club, and the fans made me feel wanted right from the start. It would be great to repay their support by helping the team make the play-offs this season.”

Whyte’s father, Dallas, had a memorable career himself at Nyewood Lane in the early 1980s and is still fondly remembered by many older supporters.

He has been a hit in two loan spells at the Lane - playing key roles in the second half of last season and the first half of this term.

Meanwhile Ben Johnson’s cruciate ligament op has been brought forward to today (Jan 15).

Rocks secretary Simon Cook said: “Everyone at the club sends their very best wishes and looks forward to the day when we will see him again playing for The Rocks.”

Johnson is likely to take at least six months to recover from the op but the Rocks hope he could return in pre-season.

As for tonight’s Cray game, no pitch inspection was necessary after an improvement in the weather and the game is on.

We’ll have first news of the game on this website tonight.
