Russell gets in the groove

DEAN RUSSELL, sporting his trademark black glove on his bridge hand, has won his round-robin group in the Waterlooville Sports Bar Junior Snooker League for the first time in seven weeks.

The 15-year-old, from Portsmouth, climbed two places to seventh. And he was one of three players to match their highest breaks in the week-14 action.

Left-hander Russell recorded a 13, Billy Reid made an eight and Zak Truscott chalked up two 15 breaks.

Harry Wilson, 11, won the top group and closed the gap to his twin brother and league-leader Lewis to four points.

Sessions for under-19s are held from 4.30pm to 6.30pm every Wednesday.

Elsewhere, 13-year-old Jamie Wilson’s trip to Maidenhead for the fifth leg of the EASB Regional Junior Tour – South East ended with a puncture near Guildford.
