Beginners will be handed the chance to get on the water and give sailing a go.
Hill Head Sailing Club (HHSC) are hosting their annual open day on Sunday, May 10.
The event offers the chance for any inquisitive first-timers to try their hand at sailing, windsurfing and a host of other water-based activities.
The day will start with kayaking and paddleboarding sessions from 10am, while the sailing tasters will run until 2pm, with all sessions supervised by qualified coaches and instructors.
Non-members will also be able to tour the clubhouse and facilities, with a barbecue and open bar on offer throughout the day.
HHSC commodore Luke Morrison believes this is a great opportunity for budding sailors to experience a new activity.
Morrison said: ‘Coming to this open day gives people the chance to try before they buy.
‘There will be instructors on hand to take people out for a taster and show them the basics.
‘This year we’re going wider than just sailing.
‘We’re starting to offer more multi-sports such as paddleboarding, kayaking and windsurfing.
‘We provide all the equipment – anyone who is interested just needs to turn up on the day.
‘We want family members, both adults and children, involved with the club on and off the water.’
Founded in 1930, HHSC is based in Titchfield Haven and offers a full racing schedule for Lasers, Toppers, Mirrors and a large handicap fleet.
The Cliff Road club also boasts a busy off-the-water calendar, with dinners and informal evening events held throughout the year. And Morrison feels the social element is vital.
The commodore added: ‘We’re a very light-hearted family club who put a real emphasis on hosting events for both children and adults.
‘In creating such an environment, we hope people get on the water and learn to sail but then we do other things around that to keep them motivated and involved.
‘We’re constantly pushing the boundaries of what we offer.’
