Al’s Club have got off to a flying start in division one of the Peter Rook Portsmouth League Cup.

They defeated Cowplain Z 10-1, with Frank Baxter winning the only frame for the visitors – although even he profited from Trevor Sanders going in off the black.

Justin Andrews, Matt James, Matt Hannam and Ashley Bendall gave Al’s Club skipper Mark Kingswell great backing.

Craneswater Z enjoyed their trip to Leigh Park and cruised to a 9-2 win.

Copnor A and Craneswater opened their accounts with 7-4 wins over Porchester and Emsworth respectively.

In division two, Copnor E won five out of nine frames against Bellair A but won the aggregate bonus by over 100 points. John Shervell and John Oldfield won both racks.

A fine display from Stuart Calver fired Craneswater Q to victory over Copnor D, who had their moments thanks to Dave Glover.

Bellair B pipped Cowplain Gas 6-5 with Richard Picton was on song.

Cowplain A fared better, returning a 7-4 win against Post Office.

John Stewart, Steve McKnight and Russ Linkhorn put the hosts in control before George Mountford led a brief fightback.

Alexandra and SESA both celebrated 8-3 wins in the third division.

The bowlers blasted Leigh Park despite resistance from Richard Pask.

Dave Harfield and Iam Cotton were key men.

And the Broadoak outfit gave newly-promoted Copnor Cuestars a tough baptism.

Barry Branscombe, Steve Scott and Simon Fleming took no pity on the youngsters.

Doubles from Gary Marshall and Jeff Oakes edged Carlton to a 6-5 win over Craneswater.

Copnor Excels lost all three pairs but still beat North End Bowls 7-4 with Dave Gowing leading by example.

Copnor are ahead in division four thanks to a 9-2 win at Cowplain C.

Cuestars B beat Castle Heating 7-4 and Top Spot beat Cowplain B 6-5.
