Stevens targeting 2019 British Sidecar Championship success already

Ricky Stevens admitted he's already looking forward to next season after his Quattro Plant JC Speedfit Kawasaki team brought the curtain down on their British Sidecar Championship.

The 2018 campaign proved a massive learning curve for the Portsmouth driver, with him and passenger Ryan Charlwood claiming fourth place in the main event and second in the 600cc competition.

That followed fifth and second-placed finishes in the final round of racing at Brands Hatch last weekend.

Stevens said he took plenty on board after an exciting season and was looking forward to utilising that knowledge in the future when both the British and World Championships will be powered by 600cc machines only.

He said: 'We knew it would be a big learning curve when we changed from a 1000cc to the 600cc machine.

'We are looking forward to next season when we will be able to compete on the same level with all the machines.

'We are also hoping to compete in a few more World Championship round like we did earlier in this season.'

After securing fifth place on the grid, Stevens and Charlwood had to make do with a sixth-place finish in race one on Saturday.

That's after getting held up for a few laps by one of the larger 1000cc machines.

As a result, championship rivals Todd Ellis and Charlie Richardson claimed the 600cc title following their seventh-placed finish.

In race two on Sunday, the Portsmouth-based team started fifth on the grid - holding their position to claim fourth in the overall event, which was won by Steve Kershaw and Stuart Clark.

Charlwood said: 'I would like to thank our team and all our sponsors and family and friends for the support they have given us this year, especially as it has been a season of learning for both myself

and Ricky.'
