Sixteen-time world champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor and current world number one ‘Mighty’ Michael van Gerwen are both in the line-up for the annual Guildhall event, which is organised and promoted by MODUS Sports Events.

Also coming to the city, in what looks like the best field ever for what is usually a sell-out show, is colourful star Peter ‘Snakebite’ Wright.

He will also be joined by fellow Premier League ace James Wade, who has won a multitude of major titles – albeit not as many as darts’ supreme stars van Gerwen and Taylor.

Both of these darting greats have previous experience of the popular event, which will take place on December 3, but haven’t met on the Guildhall stage – a prospect which will leave many darts fans in a state of excitement.

And van Gerwen, who won last year’s tournament, says he wants to make the event his own.

‘I’ve won this brilliant event a couple of times now,’ said the Dutch sensation, who hopes to have passed the 20 major title mark by the time he gets to Portsmouth.

‘The crowd there have always been fantastic and supported me well so I want to put on a brilliant performance for them – and I want to beat everyone, including Phil.

‘He was in the event before but he didn’t win it and I don’t want to let him get his hands on my trophy!

‘Seriously, though, it will be an honour to share the stage with him and what a night the fans have in store.’

Also on show on what promises to be another excellent evening are Dutch destroyer Vincent van der Voort, former world youth champion Keegan Brown, Cosham’s Andy Jenkins, and the two of the game’s greatest entertainers in Wayne Mardle and Bobby George.

Early booking is strongly advised to avoid disappointment.
