Trio provide welcome boost for Portsmouth

PORTSMOUTH are boosted by the return of three key players for their Southern League division one trip to OT's and Romsey on Saturday.

Ben Duggan, Jordan Palmer-Goddard and Alex Hammond are all back in the side.

The visitors are looking to finish the campaign with two wins in their bid to overhaul second-placed Sarisbury Athletic.

Captain Jack Marston said: '˜Our win against Andover made us safe and banished any relegation worries.

'˜It means there is no pressure and we can go out and play our cricket in a relaxed fashion. It would be good to get above Sarisbury and finish in the runners-up spot.

'˜That would set us up ready for a promotion bid next season.

'˜This campaign has gone very much as we expected.

'˜We lost six out of our first seven games but we expected to struggle in the first half of the season.

'˜After Fraser Hay, Andrew Marston and James Christian came back we only lost one more game.

'˜If we had got off to a slightly better start we might have been able to push champions Bournemouth more.'

Sarisbury Athletic are looking for a return to winning ways on their visit to relegation battling Andover.

Tom Nightingale and captain Ricky Rawlins have been in superb form with the bat this summer.

Their bowling attack has been potent with Sam Hill (28 wickets), Philip Jewell (25 wickets) and Jordan Wright (25 wickets) topping the averages.

In division two Waterlooville host Tichborne Park at Rowlands Avenue looking to complete a league double over their visitors.

'˜We are safe from relegation so the season is pretty much over for us,' said captain Jon Hudson.

'˜Our target at the start of the season was to maintain our position in this league with anything else a bonus. We have achieved that with all the squad contributing.

'˜Almost certainly we will be better for our first year at this level.

'˜In the last two games we can just enjoy it.'
