Wade and Hill storm to Ryde 10 success

Joe Wade continued his successful start to 2016 with victory in the Ryde 10.

Representing Isle of Wight AC he recorded a time of 53min 39sec to take a comfortable win.

Wade, who also competes for Aldershot, Farnham & District, backed up his success in the Stubbington 10k recently.

Joe Crofton, from South London Harriers, finished second in 55.35.

Sarah Hill continued her winning form in the Hampshire Road Race League.

She added to successes in the Gosport Half Marathon and the Stubbington 10k with another fine performance.

The talented racer from Farnham Runners finished in a time of 1.01.24 – excelling in stormy conditions on the tough hilly course.

Second lady was Stubbington Green’s Vicky Shaw (1.08.15).

Host club Ryde Harriers had a spot on the podium with Sarah Blackwell taking third place (1.10.14).

Judy McCabe, from the Isle of Wight Road Runners club, was fourth lady (1.10.41).

Victory’s Dan Bailey finished ninth on the challenging Isle of Wight course with a time 59.23 and Paul Mitchinson was 17th in 1.01.32.

Michelle Cartwright was Victory’s first lady (1.14.51).

Fareham Crusaders again featured strongly.

Peter Abrahams was the club’s first finisher in 1.03.46 and Mike Gilmour was next in 1.04.29.

Julian Manning, from Denmead Striders, was once again up among the leaders to finish fourth in 57.46.

Stubbington Green’s Andy Simpson was second male-40 after Manning. He finished an excellent 12th in 1.00.06.

Rob Byrne, of Gosport Road Runners, was next across the line as he took 13th place with a time of 1.00.29.

Portsmouth Joggers captain Barry Griffin led a 25-strong team across the Solent from the club based at 1000 Lakeside, North Harbour.

He praised a good team effort in tough conditions.

Griffin said: ‘First to finish was Ben Stait (1.03.15 for 23rd overall and fourth in age category).

‘A cracking run by Ben who is having the season of his life.

‘Next was Richard Bailey (1.04.34 in 36th).

‘Again great running and even more outstanding was that he came first in his age category male 50.

‘First home for the ladies was Catherine Metcalf in a great time (1.16.33).

‘Thanks to everyone for representing the club.

‘It was a great day with superb running by all.’
