Wilson ready to table his English Championship bid

The talented cueist, from Havant, is through to the final of the English Under-14 Championship.

After qualifying via a regional event, the 12-year-old progressed through three knockout rounds at the Northern Snooker Centre, Leeds.

He faces Oldham century-breaker Ryan Davies, 13, who competes on the EASB Premier Junior Tour, for national glory during finals weekend in June.

Wilson, who has been based at Chandler’s Ford Snooker Club for more than four years, defeated his Cuestars gold tour rival Bradley Cowdroy, from Bournemouth, 4-1 in the last-16.

He then beat Birmingham’s Halim Hussain 4-2 in the quarter-finals.

There was plenty of drama in Wilson’s semi-final clash.

He found himself 28 points behind in a deciding frame against Merseyside snooker ace Paul Deaville.

But the youngster who also plays regularly in the Portsmouth League held his nerve.

He turned the tables on his rival and completed a 4-3 victory on the final pink.

Neil Johnson, Deaville’s coach, described Wilson as ‘without doubt the best 12-year-old in the country’.

Wilson’s mum Suzy, said: ‘His potting was absolutely fantastic.’

By being a finalist Wilson has won automatic entry into the European under-17 competition in Malta next year.

Wilson recently made his first century break, after also taking on snooker great Ronnie O’Sullivan in an exhibition match.
