A look at the world of stand-up

Madeline Smith and Roger Moore in Live and Let Die

Bond Girl Madeline will ‘Q the Music’

A debut comedy play by Jim Davidson, billed as a hard-hitting look at the world of stand-up, will be staged at the Southampton Mayflower from March 7-12.

Stand Up And Be Counted follows the explosive chain of events that unfold when opposite ends of the comedy spectrum collide in the dingy, cramped dressing-room of a charity fundraising event.

Davidson himself will play Eddie Pierce, a dyed-in-the-wool, old-school comedian who comes face to face with his nemesis, Earl T Richards, one of the UK's hottest young stand-up stars.

Add to the mix Eddie's long-suffering wife and manager, an openly gay comedian and the latest in a long line of 'celebrities' discovered by the conveyor-belt of TV talent shows, and the evening is sure to be one that none of them will forget in a hurry.

Also waiting offstage is Eddie's trusted road manager and confidant who has chosen tonight to drop a bombshell of his own.
