Artists' submissions wanted for major new artwork in Portsmouth Guildhall

ARTISTS are being invited to submit proposals for a new giant work of art in Portsmouth Guildhall.

The winning proposal will feature on a wall space of about 53ft by 8ft at Aspex Guildhall, the basement exhibition area in the venue.

Aspex Visual Arts Trust and Portsmouth Cultural Trust, which runs the venue, have been working together to present the work of emerging artists for the last two years.

Aspex Guildhall’s changing exhibition programme has recently moved to the café on the ground floor of the building.

As a result, an opportunity is now open to artists to propose a wall drawing for a new commission for the basement exhibition space.

Working directly onto the wall, the winning artist will produce an original drawing, the progress of which will be open for the public to view both within the space and digitally.

The finished work will remain on display for a year.

A £1,000 fee will be awarded to the selected artist and a budget of up to £500 will be available for materials and expenses.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, August 22 at 10am, and are by email only marked ‘Guildhall wall drawing’ to [email protected]
