Big Fish musical gets its regional premiere from Ccads on Hayling Island

Multiple award-winning Ccads Theatre return to Hayling Island’s Station Theatre – home to their recent sell-out performances of magic of The Musicals, among many other productions – with the area premiere of the enchanting Big Fish.

This magical musical is based on the novel by Daniel Wallace and the Tim Burton film which starred Ewan McGregor and Jessica Lange alongside the late, great Albert Finney.

Big Fish, which premiered in London’s West End starring Kelsey Grammer following a run on Broadway, tells the story of Edward Bloom, a travelling salesman who brings back tales of his extraordinary adventures to his family in a musical that moves between the touching interactions of a father and grown-up son and the world of mermaids, giants and witches that Edward inhabits.

Suitable for all the family, the musical is performed by a cast of 20 top local talents alongside a live six-piece orchestra in a production that will move and entertain in equal measure

Ccads artistic director John-Paul McCrohon, recent recipient of The Guide Award for Special Achievement for his services to local theatre, takes the role of Edward Bloom alongside real-life wife – and double News Guide Award Best Actress-winner Kerry McCrohon – as Sandra Bloom while Ross Cobbold, who starred alongside Darren Day in the UK Tour of musical comedy The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee plays their son Will Bloom.

This beautiful gem of a musical re-unites many of the team behind Ccads’ sell-out, record-breaking 50th anniversary production of Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang at The Kings Theatre, which also saw the company perform live to millions on national BBC Breakfast TV with a medley of songs from the show.

Musical director Louise Helyer, whose own original musical, The Code of Love, played the Station Theatre in recent years, once again leads the band while choreographer Charlotte Turnbull also plays Jenny Hill, the woman Edward left behind.
