Charity auction is inspired by Bowie

I had a great time with my children last weekend at The Thorngate Hall watching Mother Goose, especially when my son Jayden was picked to go on stage to make a spaghetti bolognese!

It was really great fun especially when I saw my good friend Hazel Doughty who has taught crotchet at Tammy’s One Stop Party Shop.

I must give praise to the whole cast, front and back stage, as well as the children from Jubilee School of Dance and the producer Dean Dixon and director Glynne Benk-Adams. I look forward to next year’s pantomime.

Helena Heath is 44 and from Gosport and has worked at Inklination in Bemisters Lane, Gosport for eight years.

Helena was devastated to hear of the passing of David Bowie and decided she wanted to do something to mark his passing.

She decided that she would do a painting of David Bowie and auction it for local cancer charity, Harbour Cancer Care Gosport.

After speaking with myself and Marie from Katie’s in Gosport Shopping Precinct, an auction evening has been arranged.

‘Like most people, I was shocked and deeply saddened to hear that David Bowie had died,’ said Helena.

‘I’ve been a fan since I heard the laughing gnome as a little kid.

‘Bowie was never afraid do something different.

‘He was such an inspiration to so many people for many different reasons.

‘I’m sure even the way he lived with the cancer for 18 months, keeping it private and working to the very end, will give some people courage to face the dreaded disease head on .

‘I was so excited to hear his new album Black Star, released on his birthday. Even at the end of his life he was still giving, so I felt moved to do something.

‘A painting to sell or auction off, but it occurred to me that other people might feel the same’.

Local artists are urged to donate their artwork

Helena added: ‘I would love to see all music-related art but especially Bowie. Any medium even poetry if it’s written down!’

The auction will take place at Katie’s on Saturday, February 27 from 7pm.

If any artist would like to donate their work please can you deliver to Inklination or Katie’s before Wednesday February 25 so it can be displayed on the Facebook page for buyers before the day.
