Couple make family the centre of their big day
So when Shaun’s grandfather fell ill with cancer, the couple from North End were determined he would share the special occasion with them.
The couple brought the date of their wedding forward so that Alan Smith could be there – and when he was admitted to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Shaun, 30, and Lucy visited him after the ceremony at Portsmouth Register Office.

Hide AdLucy, 25, says: ‘I got lots of looks as I walked through the hospital with Shaun in my wedding dress – you can’t exactly hide in the background! Alan didn’t normally get emotional, but he did then.
‘It isn’t often that you can have all your friends and family together, so it was a lovely day.’
Unfortunately Alan passed away three weeks after the wedding, but the couple have lots of happy memories of their big day, including sharing it with their daughter Lana, four.
Lucy says: ‘She was an absolute angel, as good as gold. She hates us kissing and cuddling, so we expected her to be going crazy but she was so well-behaved.’
The couple had their reception at Alexandra Bowling Club in Northern Parade, with 130 guests.
