Give pounds to spend a penny in aid of the Kings Theatre's toilets

The Kings Theatre is making the final call for its Pounds for Pennies appeal to raise cash for the refurbishment of its dress circle toilets.

On Monday, July 18 the venue in Albert Road, Southsea, closes its first-ever attempt at online
fundraising.

‘This has been our first attempt at raising money online and it has been an exciting experience,’ said marketing manager Kelly Haswell.

‘We’ve used video, social media and been supported by numerous outlets to explore this method of fundraising and with just short of 100 donations so far, it’s already proved an extremely worthwhile learning process.

‘We know it has been a difficult time to get attention with all that is happening at the moment, but we are confident of closing the campaign on an even higher note.’

Celebrity patrons actress Lisa Riley, comedian Hugh Dennis, stage star Dillie Keane and singer Anita Harris gave their support in a video which can be found online at crowdfunder.co.uk where you can also make donations.

The theatre is offering a host of treats to those who make donations ranging from free drinks to tickets for exclusive historic tours of the theatre or a party to meet the cast of this year’s pantomime.

And one name will be selected at random to win a golden ticket to see an unlimited number of Kings Theatre productions for a whole year.

This is the first stage of a multi-million project to make the Edwardian theatre fit for the 21st century.
