The Guide Awards Winner: Best Classical Music winner, Portsmouth Baroque Choir
Musical director Malcolm Keeler and deputy chairwoman Kathy O'Hanlon collected the trophy for Portsmouth Baroque Choir’s first Guide Awards win.
One of the smaller choirs in Portsmouth, it has about 35 members.
‘This is fantastic,’ says Malcolm. ‘It's recognition for all the work that the choir have done over the years. Next year will be our 40th year as Portsmouth Baroque.’
The award was won in large part for their performance of Bach's Mass in B minor last July.
‘It’s a big work and we called in a few favours from one or two friends, and did a collaboration with a period instrument band in Sussex called the Consort of Twelve. It was just a fantastic day, which we all really enjoyed, and we had a big audience for it as well.’
The choir’s next concert is on March 28 at the Church of The Resurrection in Drayton, where they will be singing a classical program of Haydn and Mozart, including the latter’s well-known Exsultate Jubilate.
