The Heron in Havant is expected to welcome scores of families in aid of the community group the Friends of Stockheath Common Fireworks.

The collective was kick-started last year after Havant Borough Council announced plans to withdraw its funding for the annual fireworks display on Stockheath Common in Leigh Park.

Each year the fixture draws thousands of revellers, but to make a 2018 return possible campaigners have had to carry out their own fundraising '“ to the tune of about £10,000.

With £2,500 left to collect before the November spectacular can be pencilled in, families are invited to enjoy a disco, face painting, a barbecue and live magic at The Heron tomorrow, between midday and 6pm.

Then, from 6pm until 11pm, the Petersfield Road venue will play host to an adult fundraiser.

A day later, from 8am until 1pm, the final car boot sale in aid of the display will take place on Stockheath Common.

The fee to set up a stall is £7 for sellers parking their cars, and £9 for those bringing vans or cars with trailers.
