But hip-hop dancing magician Magical Bones is hoping to win some fans when he comes to the Mayflower to launch the touring production of Impossible (February 3-6).

Fusing death-defying stunts, technological trickery, grand stage illusions and close-up magic, Impossible reinvents the biggest illusions in history.

Magical Bones will be joined onstage by TV escapologist Jonathan Goodwin, former Cirque du Soleil performer Lee Thompson, Chris Cox, star of BBC 3’s Killer Magic, and former Young Magician of the Year Ben Hart.

Bones says his stage name comes from his hip-hop roots, which he incorporates into his routines. A back-flipping card trick has become one of his signature routines.

He says: ‘I used to be a professional hip-hop dancer and my nickname was Bones because I do a hard-hitting body-popping style. But when I started doing magic properly I added Magical because... well, I’m magical.’

He did magic as a hobby alongside his dance career, and remembers entertaining other dancers when they were backstage.

But his most high-profile casual audience member was the Material Girl herself.

‘I showed Madonna a few of my magic tricks when I performed at her son’s 10th birthday party. I did one card trick and I remember her saying “wow, that’s cool”. Celebrities tend to keep it cool though.’
