The new BBC One series will be called Peter Kay’s Comedy Shuffle and the broadcaster says it is a chance to “celebrate and re-discover” some of Kay’s best work following the success of the Christmas special honouring him.

The Cradle to Grave star’s work will be featured in six episodes of thirty minutes each for the new series.

Kay was seen over the festive period in the Christmas special titled Peter Kay: 20 Years of Funny, which was a documentary looking at his career to date.

“I was completely overwhelmed by the response to 20 Years of Funny and I feel honoured that the BBC would like to take a further look back at my career so far,” Kay said of the new TV series. “I’m also delighted to still be working after twenty years at a job I still love.”

BBC One’s controller, Charlotte Moore, said: “Peter Kay is a comic genius that brought such joy to BBC One viewers last year. I’m thrilled that he is bringing his new series to the channel.”

The show will be broadcast on BBC One later in the year.
