Primary schoolchildren ushered out of theatre production due to '˜inappropriate content'

Schools in Portsmouth were invited to a performance of 9 to 5 the Musical by students at Portsmouth Grammar School but several teachers took their children out due to '˜inappropriate content'.

The News understands the schools involved included Cottage Grove Primary School and Northern Parade Junior School.

Cottage Grove confirmed students left the matinee performance and had written to Portsmouth Grammar School with their concerns.

Deputy headteacher at Portsmouth Grammar School Chad Hamlet said: '˜This year's school musical, 9 to 5, was performed on two successive evenings at the King's Theatre to near sell-out audiences and received much praise, including a very favourable review from The News. 

'˜The matinee performance was edited for the school audience and we have apologised to the small number of schools who felt that some of the content remained unsuitable for their pupils. 

'˜We are committed to providing local schools with the opportunity to experience the performing arts and we in no way intended any upset.'
