Review: Grumpy Old Women at the Guildhall, Portsmouth

We have seen the TV programme’s Grumpy Old Women airing their frustrations and here they are with 50 Shades of Beige.

The Grumpies, as they keep referring to themselves, comprise comedienne Jenny Éclair, Susie Blake (Corrie/Mrs Brown’s Boys) and Kate Robbins (Crossroads).

Each woman brings her own viewpoint on the ups and downs of being middle-aged. They discuss the joys of keeping themselves presentable by declaring their mantra when dying their head and facial hair: ‘roots, tash, chin’.

They talk about big knickers, pork pie cravings as opposed to chocolate, how a Grumpy’s idea of heaven would be an empty dishwasher and tactical nagging to get your other half to do as they are told, without them realising as such.

There is laughter throughout, undoubtedly from members of the audience who can relate to what the women are saying.

Towards the end we are treated to cringeworthy dance moves (we’ve all done it) and I leave realising I am a Grumpy Old Woman.
