Review: Lady Boys Of Bangkok at the New Theatre Royal, Portsmouth

The Ladyboys of Bangkok stole the hearts of their Portsmouth audience after an alluring performance at the New Theatre Royal.

The dazzling show – with rhinestones aplenty – captivated its audience from the first lip sync.

The gender-bending show then flowed effortlessly into various genres of music.

Highlights of the first half were the tongue in cheek rendition of One Direction’s One Thing, and Beyoncé’s Single Ladies.

The talented cast changed the lyrics for both songs and instead of Single Ladies, it became Wrinkle Ladies.

Another favourite with the crowd was the Moulin Rouge performance, ruffled skirts, corsets and jewels – amazed the raucous audience.

Singing and clapping was encouraged and with the performers beaming smiles, it would have been hard not to.

There were a few moments where the choreography slipped and the lip sync was unfortunately out of time, however these mistakes were soon forgotten.

The final number, It’s Raining Men, had the crowd to their feet and the cast received a standing ovation for their comical, but stunning performance.
