REVIEW: The Specials at the Guildhall, Southampton

Warm-up act General Roots performed amazingly and succeeded in getting the crowd ready for the Ska-filled night ahead.

The stage set-up was kept to usual Specials standard, Horace Panter on the left, Terry Hall in the middle and Lynval Golding on the right.

Sadly, these are the only three original members of the band who perform due to the death of drummer John Bradbury, late last year.

The Coventry boys put together a heart-warming tribute to Bradbury, which brought the fans together – many of them linking arms during the song.

The Specials played all their old, iconic music, which has been heard by many throughout the decades since they first began in 1977.

It was the usual affair with the crowd, many would have gone home with bruises yet seemingly not through anger, just through the love of the traditional skinhead dance.

Overall, the band performed outstandingly, proving that age is just a number as many of the young crowd members were unable to keep up with Lynval’s energetic moves.
