Southampton theatre opens preview tours of new facilities

Nuffield Southampton Theatres will be expanding its enterprise into the city centre with the opening of a new theatre, NST city.

Work is very much in progress at the new venue, for which preview tours start this month.

Members of the community will be able to discuss how the facility could be of benefit to them with NST’s director, Sam Hodges.

With its first major production scheduled for autumn 2017, NST City’s features include a 447-seat main house theatre, a 135-seat studio, rehearsal and workshop spaces and a café bar.

It has been built as part of the £25m Studio 144 project in the cultural heart of Southampton.

Director Sam says: ‘I am very excited to be offering a preview opportunity to the people who matter most –the people of Southampton. This is their venue and that relationship starts now.

‘NST City will transform our ability to engage a diverse community from the region and support the burgeoning cultural ecology of the city. This will be a place where artists and audiences mingle; a place where we can celebrate not only theatre, but also dance, film, music and spoken word.’
