Victorious Festival: Organisers add 120 local and unsigned acts to the line-up

MORE than 120 new, unsigned, self-releasing and local artists have today been added to the bill of this summer’s Victorious Festival.

The Southsea-based festival has become known for giving up-and-coming acts the chance to perform in front of big crowds alongside the more well-known performers.

The UK’s biggest metropolitan festival has announced 120 carefully curated acts to perform across its 13 stages.

They join major names already announced to play this year including New Order, Rudimental, Two Door Cinema Club, The Specials, Bloc Party and many more.

Among those performing is Hampshire’s Wren, who will be bringing her velvety vocals, sweeping guitars and electronic shading to the festival. Hotly tipped by BBC Introducing, her lo-fi beats and intoxicating lyrics are sure to win over music fans.

There is also the return of dream-pop band Flowvers with their mission to be the ‘best thing you’ve ever heard.’  Merging sounds reminiscent of The Cure with dreamy sensibilities akin to newer acts like Peace, you can see why they’ve been earmarked industry-wide as ones to watch.

For fans of rock, current Guide Award-winning Best Band Seething Akira perform on the Sunday. Having supported the likes of Skindred and Don Bronco, this unique electro-metal five-piece are guaranteed to put on an energetic live show. Last year they finally released their long-awaited debut album Sleepy Skeletor to great acclaim.

Festival organiser Andy Marsh said: ‘There needs to be places for young and upcoming artists to play. Having played in bands myself, I know how hard it is to get people to see you play at a venue on a week night.

‘People have so much going on. It’s great that Victorious can open up a larger audience to these acts. There’s so much talent around, I’m glad even more of it’s getting seen and heard.’

Held on Southsea seafront over the August bank holiday weekend, August 23-25, revellers can expect an eclectic mix of live music and DJ performances, from some of the biggest names in the music industry, as well as a medley of locally sourced food markets and ale stalls, an arts and craft marketplace, a jam-packed kids arena hosting themed games, live performances and much, much more.
