Author thinks Portsmouth is a '˜wonderful place' as it offers his books for free

AN author whose magical novel is available for free at community centres and libraries has described Portsmouth as '˜a wonderful place'.

Neil Gaiman's fictional tale Stardust can be picked up from any Portsmouth City Council library or community centre as part of the Portsmouth City Read.

The aim is to inspire Portsmouth people to read and talk about the book during September and October.

When Portsmouth Libraries put the information on Twitter, the author replied: '˜This is why Portsmouth is a wonderful place'.

Cllr Steve Pitt, cabinet member for culture leisure and sport at Portsmouth City Council, said: '˜This is a great opportunity to try new literature and we're delighted to be featuring this enchanting book. I've been a Neil Gaiman fan since reading Neverwhere but I haven't read Stardust yet, so I will be joining in the Portsmouth City Read myself.'

Books are available while stocks last.
