Car enthusiasts show their support for Mayor of Havant's Classic Vehicle Run

A procession of classic vehicles roared through the streets of Havant and up Portsdown Hill as part of the 12th Mayor of Havant’s Classic Vehicle Run.

Vintage motorbikes joined in and the whole fleet parked up at Fort Purbrook to give the public the chance to admire them and take photos.

Proceeds from the event yesterday will be put back towards the mayor’s community fund that is distributed to worthy causes.

Couple Mike and Renate Hele, of Catherington, went along in their Bond Mini car MkD, which they’ve had for 35 years.

Mike, 66, said: ‘We’ve brought it here many times, since the event began 12 years ago.

‘It’s a great excuse to play with the toys and we enjoy going around the country roads.

‘It makes people smile when they see you. It’s great getting together with other enthusiasts.’

Mayor of Havant, Councillor Leah Turner, turned up in a 66-year-old green Ford V8 Pilot.

Cllr Turner said: ‘I’m delighted to say we have had in excess of 200 vehicles this year. It’s the most ever. From what I’m told, we are the first car rally of the spring, and a lot of people bring their vehicles out for the first time. There are some beautiful ones.’
