Portsmouth’s Bar 38 to close its doors today

Have your say

As you bin your advent calendar, the Christmas and New Year clubbing calendar starts.

Last year was huge, but this year it seems that most of the festive and New Year celebrations have been left to some of Portsmouth’s smaller venues.

Club 8 gives you two clubs for the price of one on Christmas Eve with Jingle-Jam. Wait for Father Christmas to arrive with this great urban aural experience.

Funk’d will be commanded by DJ Mike Money, playing all the best in commercial, indie, dance, pop, rock, party and maybe some Christmas anthems to boogie too. DJ J-Fresh of Fire Radio will be taking over for Blush’d. He’ll be bringing you a fresh new mix of r ‘n’ b, hip hop, grime, funk, dancehall and everything urban.

Admission is free before 10.30pm if you put your name on Club 8’s Facebook wall. Otherwise, it’s £3 before midnight and £5 after. A bargain.

A pick of mine, which is bound to be great on Christmas Eve, is Evolution at the Wedgewood Rooms. If you’re going to be around Albert road, this is one to check out. Get there at 11pm, after the bands have played, and enjoy three great DJs playing a pure alternative mix for you to dance hard too. A simple way to see-in Christmas Day.

DJs Reverend Eales, Hev Stilet Hoe and Matt Random will be keeping you dancing until the early hours with their blend of indie, rock alternative and retro. Entry is £5.

All of you under 18s out there are probably thinking that you won’t be getting out to the clubs now until the New Year but don’t worry, Liquid & Envy have got you covered.

Head down there on Tuesday and enjoy what I think is one of the success stories of 2011, Love Social. This teenage treat will have a festive twist and will be the perfect place to show-off that new bling you got for Christmas.

Entry is £7 and includes free and unlimited soft drinks and a secure cloak room. The night runs from 7pm until 11pm.
