Making the most of the bank holiday weekend

Pub refit marks a bright new future

Gosport pub poised to become community hub after £250k refit

Have your say

Another bank holiday weekend is here. Although we’ve had a few recently, this will be the last one until August so, it is probably best to make the most of it.

Our clubs seem to be building everything up for bank holiday Monday but whether you want to throw it down or keep it chilled on the weekend before the big Monday events, I have two nights that will cater for all.

First up this evening is a great night at Little Johnny Russell’s for those of you who prefer to unwind. If you are a fan of LJR’s then you’ll be familiar with the, recently re-scheduled, Gentle Bren.

Sit down, have a cool drink and chill to the best hip hop, soul, funk, reggae and indie the bar can offer. The night runs from 8.30pm until 1am and entry is completely free so, you can save your money for the Monday.

If you prefer to just motor on through the weekend, then you might want to make your way down to South Parade Pier tonight as Eddie Halliwell helps Frequency celebrate its first birthday. Support will come from Michael Woods and Paul Nutbrown with a state-of-the-art laser and lighting system at their disposal. The night runs from 9pm to 3am and tickets cost £15 (£22 VIP) from or on the door.

Then, on Sunday, you can head to The Registry on Sunday for a Sumo-sized Bank Holiday takeover featuring dub-step star Flux Pavillion.

He’s well known for high energy sets and has gained attention at home and abroad for his unique take on the dub-step sound.

Cost of entry is still to be confirmed but those with a regulars card will definitely pay less. The night starts at 8pm. My advice – get there early.

To start off all the Bank Holiday Monday fun, Pure are holding a huge Ibiza themed foam party with some fantastic offers.

Resident DJ 4D will be back, playing the best in all the Ibiza anthems of past and present and also throwing in some house, r ‘n’ b, dub-step and commercial for good measure. All drinks on the night will be just £2.50.

Entry costs £3 before 11pm and £4 after. Those with a flyer or student card will get in for just £2 all night. Doors open at 9.30 and last entry is 1am.

Tiger Tiger have Rough Hill taking over on Monday night with student night Vodka Island.

They will be having fun themes in the different rooms, as well as a great variety of music to suit all. Also, why not book your very own booth in Groovy Wonderland. It’s £30 for up to eight people and you will get free entrance until 10pm, a reserved decorated area, a celebration cupcake each and two jugs of Vodka Monster.

Otherwise, entry is £4 before 11pm and £5 after.

Finally, all you under 18s currently stuck in half-term revision for your exams, can take a break and get down to Liquid on Tuesday night for Love Social.

It’s setting up to be a great night as The Only Way Is Essex star Joey Essex is going to be a special guest and resident DJs will be pumping up the dance floor as they play the biggest tunes right now in house, r ‘n’ b, pop and your favourite classics.

Tickets cost £7 on the door or £5.25 online at That includes free cloakroom and soft drinks. Doors open at 7pm.
