I cannot believe it. The biggest festival weekend of the year and, from what I’ve seen, not one club in Portsmouth is holding a festival-themed night. It’s quite contrary to last year, when it seemed to be all that was going on.
Don’t worry though, some awesome nights are lined-up this week for those who are not off to Glastonbury.
First off is a huge night down at South Parade Pier. This venue has a track record for bringing big names to the city and this night is no different. Due to the success of the last We Love Oldskool, the event returns with an even better line-up tonight.
The world’s number one Prodigy tribute band, The Jilted Generation, will be joined by Rozalla, DJ Sy, Brandon Block and WLS residents. A cracking presentation for sure, celebrating and reminiscing on the anthems and classics of 1988 to 1998.
Standard tickets cost £10 and are available from ticketweb.com.
If it’s retro, new wave and punk that you are after, then head to the Wedgewood Rooms tonight.
Shake Some Action are putting on a night of retro wonder as two of the UK’s best punk tribute bands, The Heart of Blondie and The UK Ramones are set to get your punk-pulses racing.
The Shake Some Action DJs will also be there to take you through the history of new wave and punk, from New York Dolls to The Cure.
The night runs from 8pm until 2am. Ticketscost £6 and are available from the Wedgewood Rooms box office or by visiting wedgewood-rooms.co.uk.
Finally, end your week and set-up for the weekend on Thursday as Educated Does... Indie at Little Johnny Russell’s.
The usual suspects, Ashley and Max, will be spinning all the best in underground indie as well as some experimental tunes too. If you want a week night out that’s not too taxing then, this is the one for you.
What’s more, this night is completely free to get in.
