Portsmouth’s Bar 38 to close its doors today

Have your say

This is the last week of standard club nights before the special festival season events we’ve come to expect start in June. So, if you like good old fashioned clubbing, then this could be your last real chance until the end of the summer.

Luckily, there are some great nights being put on this week. What a great way to start too, with a proper school disco at Pure tonight.

Arrive in academic fancy dress and you’ll get in absolutely free.

If that’s not enough, drinks will be £2.50 all night long. Music comes by way of Pure resident DJ 4D who will be laying down all the best R ‘n’ B, commercial, dance and cheese.

Doors open at 10pm and last entry is 1am.

If you are into less commercial types of dance, house and techno then you may want to get down to The Registry tomorrow night.

Josh Taylor, Al Horton and Seb Goff host Bleep Freak, bringing you the very best in deep house, minimal and techno music. They are dedicated to enhancing and furthering the unique appeal of this special kind of electronic music, as well as showcasing the up-coming talents of Portsmouth’s finest DJs.

So, if the this is your ideal, go and get your freak on. The free night runs from 8pm until 2am.

If it’s a bit of indie you’re after tomorrow night then Little Johnny Russell’s is the place to find it, as they present a huge night.

Crouch End’s very own indie troop Bombay Bicycle Club are at We Supply Movement with their favourite selections just for you. My advice is get there extremely early to avoid disappointment.

Entry is free before 10pm, £2 before 11pm and £3 thereafter. A bargain for sure.

If you are after a mid-week treat and fancy something slightly more up-market than your usual Guildhall Walk bar crawl, then my pick is Bar 38 in Gunwharf Quays on Wednesday.

Not only is it one of my favourites but, they put on a fantastic weekly cocktail night called Purple Wednesdays. You’ll get two for one selected cocktails, (and believe me they do everything) plus £2 on selected drinks such as Carlsberg, Strongbow and Snakebite. Also, selected shots are just £1.25.

If you are after a night of classy alcoholic experimentation, this is it. The night runs from 8pm until close.
