Dockyard commemorates Battle of TrafalgarÂ

The commemoration will focus on HMS Victory, the dockyard's most famous attraction and the oldest commissioned warship in the world. 

The Battle of Trafalgar was one of the most significant dates in British naval history and the occasion will be marked with a ceremony and opportunities to step back in history. 

The day will include a private ceremony on-board, attended by representatives from the Royal Navy, to both celebrate the victory at Trafalgar and remember those on both sides who lost their lives. The ship will then be opened to the public, with opportunities to explore each of the decks including Nelson's cabin, the galley and gun decks.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to see the 'Trafalgar Sail' on display at The National Museum of the Royal Navy for the first time in five years. The sail, which is kept under controlled conditions, is one of the largest single fabric artefacts in the world - the only remaining foretopsail from HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar '“ complete with cannon holes and gunpowder marks.

The dockyard will be open to visitors from 11.00 am. The Full Navy Ticket includes entry to both HMS Victory and the Trafalgar Sail exhibition. 

The cost of the ticket is £31 for adults and £18.50 for children.
