REVIEW: That’ll Be The Day! at Ferneham Hall, Fareham

Have your say

Underwear is the very foundation of our wardrobes, but we don’t tend to make it a priority when it’s not on display to the public.

Big or small, we all require support, but it’s easy to undervalue the basic undergarments that we wear virtually every day.

Great-fitting underwear can radically change the shape of your body for the better. But, equally, a bad fit can wreck your look too.

Make sure you assess your lingerie drawer every year.

A bra will last two to five years depending on use and how well you’ve cared for it, but bust size can change during that time with weight gain or loss, pregnancy and menopause.

Apparently as many as 80 percent of British women wear the wrong-size bra, so seek help.

Get measured and if you are upwards of a D cup, accept that your bra may be the most important item in your wardrobe and worth spending considerably more on.

For me, the absolute essentials include a nude bra to wear under white and sheer clothing; a black bra for dark clothes whether day or night; strapless for evening wear with spaghetti straps or halter necks; and a sports bra for exercise.

White, black and nude are not the only choices – why not inject a little colour from your palette for a feelgood boost?

Wearing something beautiful under your clothes will make you feel good about yourself.

Buy matching knickers at the same time as your bras to make yourself feel confident and desirable.

Whether a thong, bikini, boy shorts or full coverage ‘Bridget Jones’ pants, they should be comfortable and achieve a smooth line, avoiding the dreaded VPL.

Anything too tight that digs into your flesh will make you look bigger and give you unsightly bulges.

For a figure-skimming evening look, and to ensure curves in all the right places, try some shape wear. Department stores offer the leading brands such as Spanx, Triumph and Miraclesuit, as well as their own brands.

Marks and Spencer’s Magicwear gives you the choice of a waist cincher, a tummy tucker, a hip smoother, a thigh slimmer and a multi-way body which promises an all-over smooth silhouette under your little black dress.

No-one will guess the secret of your streamlined curves.
