The opening weekend of the Blind Tiger will be a Peaky Blinders-themed event

An event to ‘peak’ your interest

Have your say

Stand-up comedian-cum-comedy musician Duncan Oakley has an eye for the silly, rude, playful and downright irritating occurrences of life and uses them as subjects for songs that will not only make you laugh but also get stuck in your head for days.

A one-man band, he plays guitar, harmonica, drums and piano

Ahead of his headlining appearance at Bamboo Bar in Southsea, we caught up with him to find out more.

When did you first realise you were funny?

When we were sat around the Sunday dinner table and I asked my elder foster sister if she was a virgin. My Dad nearly choked to death. He did die later, but not from that.

What would you be if you weren’t a comedian?

A musician, because I’m frickin’ awesome at it. Or a decorator.

Name three things that make you laugh

Toby, Ben and Joff. They are my brothers and they’re all funnier than me.

What’s your favourite one-liner?

To relax, I take my girlfriend camping a lot. She’s pretty in tents.

Who’s your biggest hero?

Spider-Man, because he’s super.

Duncan Oakley headlines at Bamboo Bar’s monthly comedy night on Tuesday, April 3. He’s joined by Bryan Lacey, Mark Simmons and Ola at the venue in Palmerston Road, Southsea. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £8, including a pan-Asian taster platter, from (023) 9282 0288.
