Series 5 contestant Enwezor Nzegwu was left disappointed at news the show would be leaving the BBC after six years.

His comments come as show hosts Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins have announced they will be leaving the show after the current series.

Enwezor said: ‘It’s a real shame and all the bakers feel the same way as it’s a real BBC type programme.’

Many fear that adverts may have an effect on the programme and Nzegwu agreed, commenting: ‘Now with adverts and product placement it might lose some of its charm.

‘Its not commercial, its a programme for amatuer bakers in a quientessentially english scene.

‘It could be a great success,’ he continued, “But they [the BBC] pack a lot into that hour and maybe they need a bit more budget to make it even better but it’s a big change and a lot of people seem to be concerned.’
