IT’S been a little while since any Pompey fan could say their club was laughing all the way to the bank.
But tomorrow that’s exactly what’s going to happen, when the inaugural Pompey Comedy Store takes place at Fratton Park.
It’s being organised by Jonathan Shirlaw, who runs J* Star Productions.
Headlining the event is Colin Manford, younger brother of established comedian Jason Manford, who is about to break into the comedy scene in a big way.
Future bookings include TV comedy favourites from Mock and Week and Never Mind the Buzzcocks.
Two other acts will join him on stage in the Victory Bar at Fratton Park – Ava Vidal, Andrew Watts and Geoff Whiting, who will also host the event.
He was voted Radio Times’ Funniest Man in Great Britain, 2013.
All money raised on the night goes directly to Portsmouth Football Club, which in April last year became the biggest fan-owned club in the UK.
‘I wanted to do something for my club,’ said Jonathan, 49, from Clanfield. ‘I’ve followed them through thick and thin, and I’m looking to build a relationship with the club.’
He hopes to build the event up to a monthly occurrence, and hold a large music and comedy event at Fratton Park in the summer of next year to raise even more money for the club.
‘What I’ve got on the poster sums it up, really – help Pompey laugh all the way to the bank.’
Tickets cost £18 on the door or £15 in advance.
They are only available online on the ticket section of portsmouthfc.co.uk. To find out more, see pompeycomedy.co.uk
