Free entry to Dickens museum

The museum opens for the summer season today.

As part of English Tourism Week, admission will be free to everyone until Sunday.

The building, in Old Commercial Road, will then be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 10am to 5pm, until the end of September.

Portsmouth residents will still be able to get free entry by showing proof of address.

Novelist Charles Dickens was born in the small terraced house in 1812. His father was a clerk in the Royal Navy Pay Office.

The house has been restored and furnished to illustrate typical middle-class tastes of the era.
